Bridal Boudoir Affair loves Annie Young Cosmetics

05. Nov, 2010

Now I happen to be lucky enough to work in a field overflowing with creative, inspiring and passionate people, but I know that not everyone knows the same luck as I. The world is filled with miserable people pursuing careers they less than love for no other reason (necessarily) than for comfort and a big fat paycheck. They continuously fail to see that the real value and wealth they could be experiencing as a return, has nothing to do with larger than life financials – but more with personal satisfaction and fulfillment.

When I stepped into Avanti Spa to get made over for the Bridal Boudoir shoot, not only was I taken aback by the gorgeously spacious decor, but the nonstop buzz of people (both professional and clientele) was enough to grab my attention and not let go.

In the middle of all the action, is the Annie Young Cosmetics counter and makeup seating areas.
With the Annie Young collection bright on display, the counter tops also showcased other noteworthy luxury brands such as Girlactik, Classified, Belevance and Art Deco. When I sat down with the vibrant and refreshed looking Annie herself, alongside her energetic and spirited daughter Sharleen – passionate was the immediate vibe I got from both of them.

Fueled by a desire to do makeup from a very early age, Annie first started out working at a cosmetics counter at her local pharmacy. Looking at my everyday liquid liner staple, she revealed that she too used to wear the exact same winged guise on a daily basis. It was the 1980′s and Annie fell in love, got married, and started her family – little did she know that only a few short years later she would lose the love of her life all too prematurely. Devastated, but left to her own dexterity to support and raise her children independently, she went to New York in 1987 and founded Annie Young Cosmetics (she has happily conquered 33 years in the business since then, and is still completely in lust with it). Never slowing down her selection process until she found a supplier who could deliver exactly what her vision sought out, she brought her brand to life through quality cosmetics, impeccable customer service and an indisputable passion for her art.

Specializing in makeup for weddings and special events (Annie is no stranger to doing makeup for several Let’s Get Married cover shoots), the Annie Young brand is known for paying attention to every detail and making every one of their guests feel valued (Annie and Sharleen can both be spotted on a daily basis working in house without reserve). As someone who has lived through it herself, Annie takes pride in teaching women of all ages (and in every different state of their lives) that taking the time to feel beautiful is worth more than you may initially understand. No matter how busy you are, no matter what your budget or time schedule looks like – you must make time for you! Women are the nurturers of the world that need to start giving back to themselves a little bit more. When you take care of yourself in the best way you know how, it facilitates your taking care of others too (remember that)!

Amongst some of Annie’s favorite products from her line (although, even choosing these top three were difficult – she see’s every product as valuable in it’s own way), are the Hydrabright Line Diffuser (a concealer that brightens and diffuses aging lines), Lip Primer (a staple for every woman’s makeup kit) and her Eyeshadow Quads. From the Belevance line, Glow Base (a primer that offers up a radiant glow) is her standout product – once again, an element of doing makeup that no woman should be without!

As for the future of the company, the sky is truly the limit. Still dreams to be conquered (with many already tamed), in the past three to four years Sharleen has put her business instinct to work and created the Annie Young school of cosmetics. With classes (intensive or regular) twice a week, it is growing in size and popularity every day. With Annie’s line available at both Avanti as well as at West Spa on St. John’s in the West Island, there are an assortment of packages tailored to brides for everything from the big day itself to Bachelorette spa packages.
Anything and everything is possible to bring your big day dreams to life.
